The Missing Dead Baby In The Wenzhou Train Crash

(He Qinglian's blog)  The Merits of Microblogs: Making the hidden truths become transparent.  July 29, 2011.

The microblogs had a huge influence on coming up with the truth about the number of deaths.  First of all, the microblogs allowed the families of the victims to get information about their loved ones.  The younger brother Xiang Yuyu of the deceased couple Xiang Yu'an and Si Lihong was able to get the information to locate his surviving niece Xiang Weiyi.  Also, some of the information provided by the families of the victims as well as certain details provided by Internet users let the world know that 39 was not an accurate number of deaths.  For example, a mother named Guo Yao who lost her child asked the Ministry of Railroads on her Tencent microblog why the name of her child was not included among the deceased?  How many more names were not published?

Here is the 'tragic' story of Guo Yao in great detail:

(HoopChina)

Guo Yao:  I just saw in a forwarded microblog post that Premier Wen bowed to the victims.  Although the list of deceased victims did not include my baby, I still feel comforted because I regard the Premier as commemorating my baby.  I don't know if the Premier can be asked to come to any place where something took place?  The Sichuan earthquake, the Yushu earthquake, the southern floods ... he can be found everywhere.

Guo Yao:  Someone said: "Your baby is gone and your husband is injured.  How can you still be in the mood of posting photos of your baby?  This is so incredible."  How should I reply to him?  I stay silent.

Guo Yao:  I really don't understand!  How come they don't know that there was a huge object parked in front.  Is everybody on the train in front dead?  The nation spends so much money on everything.  Couldn't they afford to buy a mobile telephone?  Couldn't they use a mobile telephone to notify?  Are they waiting for the next compensation sum in order to steal some of it through corruption?

Guo Yao:  If the media can really help me, they wouldn't be announcing that only 35 persons died!!!

Guo Yao:  I was just doing laundry, and I found out that I did not have any clothes to wash for my baby.  I cried as I washed the clothes.  I cried as I sang: "I want a vibrant life..."

Guo Yao:  Someone asked me what am I really trying to say?  Answer: I want more people to sympathize with me!  To know the truth!  Why my child cannot be placed on the list!

Guo Yao:  I really want to curse people!

Guo Yao:  The tears taste salty; the heart is in pain!  The Ministry of Railroad deserves to die!

Guo Yao:  Every time that someone mentions my baby on the microblog, I lose control of my emotions.  I cannot help crying.  Baby, are you doing fine up there?

Guo Yao:  "@Fashion microblog", I thank you for your help.  Thanks.

Guo Yao:  Everybody, how are you!  I thank everybody for their concern and help.  I thank you for supporting me!  Thanks, I also thank "@Fashion microblog" (QQ ID @2457745910).  She gave me the greatest encouragement and help during my difficult moments.  I thank everybody.  I kowtow to everybody in my heart.

CcandycandyS: Good Yaoyao, nice Yaoyao ... so you can still be with your mother and be the child of your mother.  Up in heaven, Yaoyao baby will grow up happily!!!

Guo Yao: I want to sleep.  But every time I go to sleep, the scene of me playing with baby comes up before my eyes: Baby sits on the bed moving back and forth, raising the two hands, dancing and emitting crackling laughs, snuggling under my bedclothes to suck milk while I am asleep.

Guo Yao: Two weeks before the incident was our first wedding anniversary.  We went to take bridal photos.  But today he is lying on the sick bed.

Guo Yao: I went to check.  No name.  Nobody cares about us.

Luxiaolu: I found a problem.  The name of your son was not on the list of 39 deaths????  What is going on?  I want to know the truth!

Guo Yao: Wang Yongping, I beg you.  I give you 1 million yuan.  You go to hell!  Why is the name of my child not on the list of deceased persons?  How many more names were not put on the list?

Guo Yao: I beg you.  I thank you.

Guo Yao: The small bracelet that my son was wearing before he died is missing.  It is silver with wavy patterns.  If you see it, please let me know.  I thank you.  My son was only one hundred days old.  I wanted to take him to visit grandma, but we ran into this incident.  I hope that you can appreciate how a mother feels and perform a good deed.  If you see it, please let me know.  I beg you.

Guo Yao: Can anyone explain this?  The train in front hasn't reached the station yet and the train behind has already been sent forth?

Guo Yao: I want to take baby home.

Guo Yao: I beg you.  Please forward this post, so that kind-hearted people can see it.  Maybe they saw that small bracelet.

Guo Yao: I thank the head nurse at the Emergency Department.  She carried my baby out at the first instance.  Thanks!  The Ministry of Railroad, you fucking remember this.

Guo Yao: 500,000 yuan.  Can they buy off a mother's feelings?

Guo Yao: This is the 100 day photo of my baby.  He has left me after getting on that damned train.

Guo Yao: This is the 100 day photo of my baby.  He has left me after getting on that damned train.
Guo Yao:  I firmly refuse to believe: "No matter how great the difficulty, the Communist Party will always be our strong backup force."

Guo Yao: I used to firmly believe: "No matter how great the difficulty, the Communist Party will always be our strong backup force."

Guo Yao: I just updated the photos in my photo album "Baby before the incident."  Please go there and see.

Guo Yao: "@Republic Defender" said: There are so many trashy people nowadays.  They post a few photos on the Internet and they can increase their microblog hit counts.  This is really interesting to watch and really laughable ...

Guo Yao: I have a upset stomach.  I bought two boxes of medicine which cost me 80 yuan!  When I was young, a few yuan of medicine would cure me.  Nowadays, the pharmacies are not satisfied unless they get 80 or 100 yuan out of you.

Guo Yao: The reason why God created fingerprints is that he wants people to know that every person has wound marks!

Guo Yao: I just spoke with my university teacher.  She said: "Yaoyao, don't cry  The child is gone.  You can cry and you can even hang yourself, but the child isn't coming back.  The child was young.  If you lose one, you can have another.  Besides you are grown-ups.  You ought to know what I mean."  What should I do?

Guo Yao: I don't care about the 500,000 yuan.  If I can offer 1,000,000 yuan such that Wang Yongping and Cheng Guangzu will die, I will sell my house immediately!

Guo Yao: Here, I want to respond to Yang Xiaodong (Wow-TUralyon): First, baby had not been weaned yet.  I have not stopped gestating milk.  Secondly, I personally saw my child die.  So what is this about me wanting him to die!  Thirdly, my mother is taking care of my husband.  I slept a while at home and I did my laundry.  Fourthly, if you go to the scene of the incident [illegible]

Guo Yao: The most recently updated photos are in my photo album "Oh, oh".  Please go there and see.

Guo Yao: Baby's small bracelet may be lost.

Guo Yao: Usually by this time, Baby would have fallen asleep in my arms.  Sometimes, he would drip some saliva on my body.

Guo Yao: I got it from the pharmacy outside!

Xiao Hao: Wenzhou hospitals [illegible]

Guo Yaoyao: @A1330829305  My baby has left me because of this incident

Microblog Service: Recently, an Internet user denounced Guo Yao for pretending to be a principal involved in a news story.  After checking, this person was found to be pretending to be someone who lost a family member in the Wenzhou train incident.  Tencent Microblog has cancelled the user identification.  We thank the Internet user for making the denunciation.  We apologize for the lack of rigor in our work, thus causing harm to Internet users.

Here is the chronology of events:

On July 29, the Tencent Microblog user Guo Yao made her first post at 9:17.  She said: "My baby left me because of this incident!"  In a short period, she posted more than 10 microblog posts.  There were also many photos of a child.  Guo Yao then went through the Tencent Microblog personal information verification process.  Tencent verified the following: Guo Yao's son was 100 days old.  His name was Wang Yixuan and he died in the Wenzhou train crash.  Gao Yao's husband Wang Yuanming is currently hospitalized for severe injuries sustained in the train crash.

At 9:47, Guo Yao posted about the small silver bracelet.  This post was forwarded more thane 95,000 times and drew 1,726 comments.  Those who forwarded included 303 persons with verified identities.

At 11:23, Guo Yao posted: "Wang Yongping, I beg you.  I give you 1 million yuan.  You go to hell!  What is the name of my child on the list of deceased persons?  How many more names were not put on the list?"  This microblog posts was forwarded more than 19,000 times with almost 1,000 comments.  Those who forwarded included 271 persons with verified identities.

At 18:47, Guo Yao psoted: "I made 31 posts within seven hours.  This one makes 32 posts.  Someone people say that I have become obsessed with microblogging since losing my child!  I don't deny that.  But only microblog users can hear my voice."

At 12:09 the next day, Tencent Microblog's officially stated: "Recently, an Internet user denounced Guo Yao for pretending to be a principal involved in a news story.  After checking, this person was found to be pretending to be someone who lost a family member in the Wenzhou train incident.  Tencent Microblog has cancelled the user identification.  We thank the Internet user for making the denunciation.  We apologize for the lack of rigor in our work, thus causing harm to Internet users."

The Internet user "Fashion Microblog" wrote: "I was the one who denounced Guo Yaoyao: @A1330829305.  At the moment when I learned that she was a fraudster, I collapsed.  Because I believed in her, I wired 50,000 yuan to her yesterday.  Today, a good friend told me that the real person is her good friend.  I went and check.  The truth is out: The child is alive, the husband is not injured and they were not on the train.  The only thing that is true is her name, Guo Yao.  When I wired the money, it was to Guo Yao!"

Now, you may say that Tencent Microblog (under orders from the governmen?) silenced Guo Yao up by fabricating a fraud case against her.  Think again, because the photos of Guo Yao's baby were plagiarized from another Internet user named "Rain".  Very simply put, Guo Yao had no explanation for those photos when confronted.

For example, here is Guo Yao's photo:

And here are the photos from "Rain"'s album:

(Photo was taken with a Nikon D3000 on January 29, 2010 and uploaded on May 23, 2011.  Please remember that Guo Yao's son was said to be 100 days old.)

So far, this story is a simple fraud.  Simple enough to understand.  In fact, the actual case is way more complicated.  The first variation is that a person who claims to be the real mother of Wang Yixuan showed up and cursed Guo Yao for misusing the photos of her son.  It was later discovered that this 'real mother' was actually a sock puppet of Guo Yao after Internet users tracked down the true owner of the photos "Rain".  The second variation is that the Internet user "@Fashion Microblog" who denounced Guo Yao is also supposedly a sock puppet of Guo Yao.

There is not much point in sorting the details out.  The point is that microblogs should not be simply regarded as the tool that will make hidden truths become transparent.  Sometimes the opposite can happen.
